Manic Monday

On Friday and Saturday of Independence Day weekend Mom and my Daddy abandoned us left us alone almost all day to go to the 2009 Roswell UFO Festival downtown. They spent most of their time wandering around at the vendors' site but they also saw some very interesting things. There were symposiums and movies and tours and concerts ~ Jefferson Starship was the headliner but tickets for their concert were wa-a-ay too expensive ~ and a parade and lots of other stuff to see and do.

This is the sign that was just inside the door at the vendors' site:

These are the two most interesting motorcycles they saw while they were outside the vendors' site. Mom bought a ticket for a chance to win the first one. We do not know whether to hope she wins it or hope she does not win! The John Deere motorcycle was in the parade too.

This is a real wolf who visited the Festival from the zoo in Roswell! My Daddy was able to pet him too but he was happy to take this picture of Mom with the wolf. Even though he was very friendly I am glad I did not meet him in person.

These superheroes walked around the whole Festival and in the parade. Spiderman and Batman and the Gremlin were there too but I do not know which planet they are all from.

I think it might have been fun to see the costumed dog contest. I do not know who won because it was so hot that Mom could not stay outside long enough to watch the whole contest.

One of the most important displays at the Festival is The Wall That Heals. It is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial from Washington, D.C., and it was set up right next door to where we live. My Daddy found the name of one of his friends from when they were gymnasts in high school.

It was sprinkling when the fireworks display was scheduled so Mom and my Daddy did not go out to the park to watch it. They were very happy that they could see and hear several fireworks displays right from the driveway at our home. Ruckus and Sushi and Zeke and I were glad the displays were far enough away that they did not bother us inside the house.

If anyone wants to come to the festival next year I think you would enjoy it. Maybe you could even visit us!

Now here is the reason this is Manic Monday ~ Mom is going to New Yuck and other points east for about a squillion years. (What Mom? Oh she says it is just 3 weeks but that sounds like a squillion years to me.) She still has to finish packing and getting ready to leave. I think she might be very busy for almost the whole time she is gone ~ she said she would have to go back to work to rest up from this trip. She will see my Grandpa and Grandma and lots of other relatives and friends and she has some parties and a wedding to go to and she will work at a dog agility trial too. I have told her to make time for naps!

Mom is helping me with this post but it may be a long time before I can post again even though my Daddy will e-mail her some pictures and I will tell her what I want to say when she calls us. I will visit as many of you as I can but I will probably not be able to comment very much without her here to help me type.

I hope you are all having a great summer!

My mom went to the UFO Festival in 2000 and said it was a real hoot. That was way before I was born but she said my old bro Eddie would have enjoyed seeing all those wiggly antennas! (She's also seen the traveling wall, way way back when it was in ABQ in the late 80s and doesn't think she could do it again, it makes her way too sad.) Anyway, sorry your mom is running away from home and leaving you, but I'm sure your daddy can keep you entertained. Try to stay cool!

We hope your mom has a safe and fun trip, but you're right, 3 weeks is a squillion years. You'll miss her.

That sounds like a very fun festival. Our Mom and Her Dad got to see the Wall in DC almost 10 years ago. They were very impressed. We are sorry Mom is leaving, but at least you have Dad. It is not like you are going to be all alone.

PS: That is quite wonderful that they brought the Traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial to your festival! It's a remarkable sight. God's blessings on all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice!
