Secret Paws!

Our Secret Paws package arrived! Mom put it near the tree and I was just a little bit afraid she would make us wait until Christmas to open it. So I thwapped the box off the table and sent in the woofies to check it out. After Zeke and Sushi told Mom it was safe I patted it down just in case. The next safety step was x-raying the box ~ you cannot be too careful with those woofies around! I gave the green light and 'thumbs' (aka Mom) popped open a case of goodies! Woofies to the end of the line please! I supervised the unpacking. Sushi at least remembered her place in line. Zeke is just old and grumpy so I cut him some slack. Hmmm that packing paper was interesting. Zeke saw something interesting while I waited patiently to get my paws on the good stuff. You can see the feathers under Zeke's neck. Oooh soft balls! Hey who wrapped them ~ spiderman? Zeke's gifts were this great set of soft balls and a package of Cesar soft roasted chicken treats. They are just what he wanted! At first Sushi tried to help Mom set the balls free but then she realized she had some presents of her own. She got these great chicken-wrapped rawhide chewies and a red stuffy with rope arms. Way to go woofie! Hmmm Zeke had a problem ~ Mom is playing with Sushi and her toy instead of throwing his ball. How does that taste Sushi? Showbirds ~ all they want is your birdseed. I will enjoy showing her how I play! Both of my presents have feathers and I love them! These bouncy feathers were fun to play with. Mom and I chased each other around the room and I caught the feathers every time she tried to bounce them away. Some of our action shots are not very clear. It never hurts to double check the packing ~ there might be something tiny to chew on. See what I mean? Sheesh ~ those woofies would have missed my jewelry! Wait ~ this is how I can play with my new bouncy feathers when Mom and my Daddy ignore me have other things they need to do. For an old geezer Zeke still has a quick snapper. He almost caught that one. He has already lost this yellow ball and my Daddy has found it for him several times. That is one of his very favorite games! Sushi loves her perfect stuffy. I am sorry to have to report that she has gutted it several times already and Mom and my Daddy have given up re-stuffing it. Do not think that has made any difference in how much she loves it tho ~ she still thinks it is perfect. Can any of you guess who was our Secret Santa? I could not until Mom showed me the beautiful cards that were included with presents. It was our lovely new friend Katie! Her Glogirly helped her wrap and pack everything and sent us all these wonderful gifts. Mom even tried to get a picture of all the gifts together with the cards but we were so excited about them that we would not leave them alone long enough for that. If you click on this picture it will biggify so you can see the card better. Now I can tell you that we were Katie's Secret Paws too and we had a lot of fun choosing and wrapping her presents. We are glad we have such great friends!

Easy Like Sunday

Ha! Easy does not describe today. Here are some of the things that happened:
  • Mom finally got our Secret Paws package ready to mail tomorrow.
  • Mom finally got our t-shirt to Baby Basu ready to mail tomorrow. We are really late with this and Baby Basu has already been born! You can read about him here.
  • Mom did laundry.
  • Mom made German potato salad.
  • Mom worked on Christmas cards.

Do you see a pattern there? If I had not been able to snoopervise the wrapping and some of the laundry I would not have done anything at all with Mom today! It is a good thing my Daddy was here. He did a lot of things too but almost all of them included me. He even took me outside and let me check out the trees and the bird feeder and the neighbor's home. He even carried me around in the house and gave me lots of stinky goodness and helped me forget Mom was ignoring me.

So this is one of the things I did while I waited for Mom to remember I am here:

It is Definitely Winter Here!

This is what we woke up to see on Tuesday morning:

This is considered a huge snowfall for Roswell. It was very pretty but very cold at the same time. Our junipers did not look like they enjoyed the weight of the snow. And our poor rose bushes were really weighed down! This is how our road looked after Mom left for work even though the university opened 2 hours late. My Daddy used the snow from the junipers and the rose bushes to help make this self-portrait of what he wishes he could be doing in the woods. By Tuesday evening most of the snow was gone and not much happened on Wednesday. It snowed again all day Thursday though and most of the night. Mom thought it looked magical with the light from the street lamp glowing behind the snow as the flakes got bigger and bigger and my Daddy was very nice ~ he went out in the cold to take this picture for Mom. The university opened 2 hours late again on Friday. I thought I would get this post up before Mom left for work but she decided to sleep in instead!

I hope you are all safe and warm and enjoying your winter.

Moon Halo

On Thanksgiving evening the moon was beautiful with its halo. Mom took some pix but she said it was too cold to stay outside long enough to get very many.

Happy Thanksgiving!

This morning I had to hunt the rare and elusive Monkerkey to be sure there was enough food for all of us this afternoon: It turns out there is not much meat on a Monkerkey so I gave it to Sushi to play with while I played air banjo: Guess I will have to sing for my supper. What key is that One Note Samba in? What was that "Cat" Stevens tune?

Oh ~ Mom just said she already has the turkey in the oven and there will be plenty for Zeke and Sushi and me later. I am glad it is not a tofurkey!

Happy Thanksgiving!

My New Discovery

I have discovered that if I sit on the counter and stare at my empty bowl for long enough stinky goodness will magically appear so I can eat. I expect this will be very important to remember next week when Mom and my Daddy are on vacation for Thanksgiving.

Wordless Wednesday

Update: This was posted on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. I do not know why Blogger messes up the dates so often!

OK, almost wordless. These are cranes flying into Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge last Sunday. Bitter Lake is just outside of Roswell so we can watch the cranes flying over our house on their way in. There are thousands of them in the air, usually between 4 and 5 in the afternoon.

Wordy Wednesday

WARNING: If any of you kittehs are easily scared now might be a good time to turn away from what you are about to see.

My Daddy goes hunting for feral pigs in the Lincoln National Forest a lot. Mostly he just shoots stumps for target practice and he always takes his clicky flashy box along with his bow and arrows. This past summer he deserted us went hunting and left us all alone at home while Mom was gone in New Yuck. (Mom says I have to tell you that it was only two days and we had someone to take care of us while they were both gone. It is not the same.)

Anyway my Daddy saw this fawn (what a baby deer is called). Because I do not know her real name I will call her Fala.

My Daddy almost stepped on Fala because she was lying so still and being very quiet. He told me that Fala did not move at all while he was nearby so he was able to take a lot of pictures. I think her Mama wanted to go chat with the other Mama deer so she told Fala to stay there and wait. Fala does not look all that vishus to me.

I'm Baaaack!

It has been a very long time since my last post and it is all Mom's fault (nothing serious ~ I think she has just been a little tired for a while).

So today I decided to help her make the bed to keep her from falling asleep on it before she finished the job. Do you think the bed is all put back together yet? If you say NO you are right! Mom says I am the reason she stopped is she had to run to the medicine cabinet for something to put on her finger. She has asked me to give you all a new rule:

You will not draw blood when you help make the bed.

Who knew? I will probably forget this rule by next week and I do not expect anyone else to remember it either. Now I need to go take a nap on the nicely not-made bed.

Happy Birthday Matthew!

Today is my cousin Matt's birthday! Matt and his wife live at least five squillion miles away from here where they share their home with three woofies and two kittehs. I have never met him but since Mom loves him very much I think that I would have to like him. We wish we lived closer to him so we could see him more often.

This picture does not have anything to do with Matt or his birthday. It is one of my baby pictures for your viewing pleasure. (I am not quite this small now.)

Mancat Monday

This is our One Who Came Before named pfredd h pfyttz. He lived with Mom and my Daddy from when he was a teeny tiny boy until he was over 19 years old. He liked to talk a lot and he liked to ride on Mom's shoulders when she walked around our yard in the morning. He enjoyed traveling ~ especially when he could sit high enough to watch the scenery go by. He was also just a little bit naughty like me ~ he always wanted to go outside even when he was not supposed to.

Beautiful pfreddy had to leave just a few days before I moved in. Mom and my Daddy still miss him very much.

A Day Without Cats - NOT!

I hereby join Max, the Psychokitty, in rejecting a "day without cats"! You can have lots of fun at Lolcats and you can visit many more kitties through the Cat Blogosphere. Now I have to go snuggle with Mom and my Daddy since they also reject a day without cats.

Happy Anniversary!

Today Mom and my Daddy celebrated their 25th anniversary. They went out to dinner at a good Italian restaurant last night because my Daddy had to go out of town today. He gave Mom a very nice present ~ after the dinner he watched football with her without making fun of it ~ hahahahaha! (He also gave her lots of pretty roses.) Mom gave my Daddy buckwheat and bamboo and wildflower and blackberry honey for his coffee.

I hope I am here to celebrate many more anniversaries with them!

Tuxie Tuesday

Our beautiful Raisin a'Ruckus does not live with us any more. We miss her but she had to go live with someone else.

Ruckus moved in with us when she was very young ~ just 4 weeks old. She came through our back fence and followed my Daddy up to the house even though she could not walk more than a couple of steps without wobbling. Mom and my Daddy could not find her kitty mom and they were not willing to leave Ruckus outside on her own with all the skunks who lived in the area. So ~ we had a new baby.

Two years later Ruckus has found a new home. I do not want to go into details of why and how it happened but it was definitely something she chose. She left us in a PTU so we know she was safe but we do not know exactly where she ended up living. We were told that as soon as she was released she climbed onto the shoulder of the man who had her and started purring, which she never did even once for Mom or my Daddy in the 2 years she lived with us. Mom thinks that we were just a way station for Ruckus and that she was using us until she knew there was someone else who would provide her real forever home.

Goodbye Raisin a'Ruckus. We hope you are very happy for a very long time.
