Veteran's Day 2013
“The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.”
—Patrick Henry
Our thanks go out to all of you who have been vigilant, active and brave for your willingness to put your lives on the line to protect the freedoms so many of us take for granted.

It's Constitution Day in the U.S.A.
"Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who, are born in the U.S. or by naturalization, have become citizens." (from Constitution Day). There is a lot of good information at this site.

Catch Up Day
It is Labor Day in the US but I am pretty sure there will be very little labor happening at my house. Mom will do some laundry so she has clean clothes to wear to her day hunting place but that is about it. I hope Mom and my Daddy do not think putting stinky goodness into my bowl several times counts as labor! They plan to cook burgers on the grill so I am fairly sure that means they do not mind fixing food. Mom did put some in my bowl two times this morning. Maybe I will not starve today after all.
Yesterday was Mom and my Daddy's wedding anniversary. I think they started celebrating Labor Day early because they both just relaxed almost all day. Mom said they celebrated their anniversary when they were in Albuquerque early last week. They went to a restaurant called Hayashi for dinner. Mom had filet mignon and my Daddy had sushi. Neither one of them brought anything home for me.
This morning my annoying woofie Marco Polo found a scorpion on the livingroom floor. My Daddy took care of it and then gave Marco a treat. Mom gave him a good snuggle and thanked him for not letting her step on the scorpion (she really hates wearing shoes in the house). Mom also said that she will get around to posting pictures of the littleannoyance woofie someday.
My other woofie Sushi has not been feeling very good for a couple of days. I think she feels a little better now because she ate all of her breakfast this morning. She has not started running and playing again yet though.
There are a lot of other things happening here in Roswell but most of them would bore you. So I will just say:

RIP Skeezix
Skeezix was one of the first cats we met on the Cat Blogosphere. He was always cheerful and fashionable and very funny. He made us laugh and think and he led us into many wonderful adventures.
Jeter Harris, Cheysuli, and others have set up a Donation Page for anyone who wants to help Skeezix' family make a lump sum memorial donation to the shelter charity of their choice.
We will miss you, Skeezix.
Skeezix had to leave Mr. Tasty Face and the Food Lady a few days ago. Many eyes have been leaking a lot since we learned this sad news.
We will miss you, Skeezix.

Happy Easter!
Sometime soon I will post some pictures and tell you about my new woofie named Marco Polo. He is a real pain most of the time but he is starting to grow on me. I am sorry to have to admit that Mom saw me standing next to him without hissing this morning so I do not know how much longer I can pretend that I do not like him at all. Since he does live here, I will include him with Sushi and me in our Easter greeting:
We wish all of you a Blessed and Happy Easter!
We hope you have had a very wonderful day.

My
woofie Zeke made his last visit to the VET a week ago Friday. He had not been
feeling well for a couple of days, but Mom thought it was mostly because of his
age. After he wouldn't eat breakfast Thursday morning and then started throwing
up that evening, Mom called the VET Friday morning. When she told Dr. Beth the
symptoms she was told to take Zeke right in.
Blood work showed that Zeke had BUN levels that were 4x normal and that his other kidney results were also very high. He had fluid accumulating in his abdomen too, which he had not had on Thursday. Mom could have left him there over the weekend getting IV fluids to flush his kidneys, but Dr. Beth said she thought the stress of being there alone would have negated any benefit the fluids would have given him.
Mom and my Daddy had already decided not to try to force Zeke to live longer than his body wanted to live. They were both holding Zeke and petting him when Dr. Beth gave him his last shot. It was very hard for them but very peaceful for my sweet woofie.
Zeke gave Mom and my Daddy almost 17 years of love and joy. He was also a very good woofie friend to Sushi and me. We will miss him very, very much.
